NEW THINGS AT JUKEJEMA !!!!!!!!!!!!

Well how the days are flying and so are the girls fingers. I think most of the girls here are addicted to 'English Paper Piecing'!! I think they are all finding everything that they are doing is revolving around the glue stick. Here's a couple of photo's of "Lancaster' centre's, how gorgeous are they? Well done Kathleen and Sue.

And also in our Thursday night girls is the lovely Cheryl, who were all very envious of with her clear little suitcase full of 'Hexagons'. Well now everyone just wanted to take them home. Cheryl is just making them cause she can and she doesn't really have a plan. They were just yummy!!!!!!!!!!

We have Chris Jurd coming to teach on 19th and 20th April with 2 spots left in the two day workshop. You are able to choose any of her designs to do in this workshop. She is an amazing teacher and I'm sure you'll have a most enjoyable time.You can view any of Chris's quilts on her blog - chrisquilts.blogspot.com.au . Give the shop a call on 44212577.

The lovely Carol has a great class in April, 'Crazy Charm Squares Plus Lazy Layers 2'. Saturday 28th April or Monday 30th April. Carol's previous 'Lazy Layers Classes were a hugh success so I'm sure these will be no exception. Ring the shop to make a booking 44212577.

OUR SUE DALEY VISIT

How lucky are we to have the very lovely and talented Sue Daley here again this year. She just amazes me with her knowledge and ideas. Sue was here for two 1 day workshops and we were able to have them at the new shop, as now we have more room! The main quilt that was taught was the new Lancaster Quilt that is absolutley gorgeous, all those reds, pinks and browns. Yum Yum!!

All the girls that attended the workshops were so busy and quietly working, I think Sue was abit shocked especially with the Sunday group.

 

I would like to thank my Mum for making all the yummy slices for the weekend. Its funny no one ever knocks back Mum's slices except if they are on the strictest diet!

I even had a lovely lady Sharon who was on holidays here from Adelaide, come and spend the Saturday  doing Sue's workshop.

Thankyou Sue for a fantastic weekend. Your such an inspiration! My mind has not stopped with all your ideas, it's just my hands can't work fast enough.

Watch for these little Baskets. They are addictive!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't wait for next years visit Sue and yes we'll have lot's of chocolate!

Stitch A Christmas Gift...

Well it's getting very close to that holly jolly season, and I've seen lots of people counting down days on their blogs...but the good news is that there is still time to make a few gifts, so get out that needle and thread and come into Jukejema for a fantastic "Sewing for Santa" workshop with Vicki Porter.

Vicki has designed some lovely little zippered bags that are perfect for little treasures and stitching projects, a heart scissor holder, little bird pin cushion, a phone pouch and a tissue holder. As well as all of these she also has instructions to make an origami style bag that you can see at the back of this photo. This class would certainly give you quite a few ideas for gifts and have you well on your way to stitching them. The "Sewing for Santa" workshop is running this Saturday, 22nd October from 10am - 3pm. You can grab a friend and give me a call on 44212577 to book your place. The class is $50 and includes the patterns for all projects. I promise to have something yummy for morning tea, but don't forget to bring your lunch!

Another Vicki class that we are running is Melbourne Cup Day.

This is always a fun filled day! You will be working on the projects pictured above. Spend your day stitching, enter some sweeps and enjoy a delicious lunch. The cost for this class has been reduced to $80 and includes lunch and patterns and is on Tuesday 1st November from 10am - 3pm. A requirements list is available upon booking and payment of your class deposit. Don't forget.... it is Melbourne Cup Day so wear your best hat and you might just win a prize!!

If you have not yet been to one of Vickis classes then you will be in for a real treat.

These girls are in Vickis Friday Stitch Club and let me tell you, they all were looking busy when I got the camera out. Friday is full of alot of laughing and a little stitching!

One last thing...

The Final Countdown

Well girls... I know the title of the blog post sounds like an old eighties song, but what I am counting down is days until the retreat!

There is still alot of things to organise before Friday 19th August but one thing that has been completed is the requirements list. Our lovely tutors have been busy with the wonderful projects that they have made especially for our Waters Edge Retreat. The requirement lists are all complete and have been posted out, so if you are joining us for a wonderful weekend of relaxation...and stitching

you have the next few weeks to decide on which project you will start work on....or if you can't decide you could always stitch a little of each one!! 

I have made some kits up for the projects and will also have fabric and goodies from the shop available for purchase. For you girls who can't join us for the weekend, I will be sure to get lots of photos!

A very big congratulations to Chris Jurd

 who won first place in the "New Traditions from Old Favourites" category at this years Darling Harbour Quilt Show.

We are certainly very privileged to have Chris teaching classes at Jukejema, including the award winning "Lots of Dots" circle sampler quilt.

Chris travels to us from her home in the Blue Mountains and is happy to share her knowledge of foundation piecing with our students.

Here are some samples of work from the "Lots of Dots" class.

For many of these students it is their first time doing foundation piecing, and as you can see the results are just gorgeous. 

Chris will be joining us again in November and we also have dates set for 2012. So if you have always wanted to try your hand at foundation piecing, Chris is more than happy for you to work on any of her designs, and what a wonderful way to learn some new techniques. If you don't want to miss out on this great opportunity be sure to contact us at the shop to pop your name down and let us know which of Chris' patterns you would like to work on. 

Well I guess I should get back to work and finish cutting some fat 1/4's for the retreat...

Still time to join

If you would like to join in on a fantastic opportunity to learn some new techniques and have a great day out... its not too late.
Sue Daley is hugely successful overseas and has spent much of the year traveling, so it is wonderful that she has taken time from her busy schedule to drop in on us at Nowra to share her talents!
There are two choices for Sues workshops..
The first is "Gypsy Garden" which is being released to us first, what a treat! This is a combination of English paper piecing and needleturn appliqué, it also has the option of adding wool appliqué.
Your second choice is "This goes with that" which is a quilt comprising of 14 different blocks made up of 2.5 inch hexagons made with various paper pieced shapes.
Workshops are taking place on Saturday 18th or Sunday 19th June from 9:30am-4pm.
Cost is $145 which includes lunch plus morning and afternoon tea.
Workshops are taking place at the function centre at the Parkhaven Motor lodge.
A fantastic chance to grab some friends for a girls weekend away or make some new friends when you come to join us!
It doesn't matter if you have never tried paper piecing before, Sue is the best person to learn from... she knows some great tricks and is more than happy to share her ideas.
You can also join in on a 3 course dinner with Sue on Friday 17th at Shoreline restaurant at just $38 per person followed by a fabulous trunk show of Sues beautiful work which is just $10 and well worth taking a look at. The girls who joined in last year gained so much inspiration and it really starts the weekend rolling!!

A Visit from Chris Jurd

I always think how lucky I am to have such wonderful and talented teachers at Jukejema and this lady was certainly no exception

 
Chris travelled from her home in the Blue Mountains to teach for a weekend at the shop. She is such a talented designer and quilter as well as a fantastic teacher.

 
The girls in Saturdays class were keen to get to work...they knuckled down and were proud to share their results

and Pippa (or is that Simba??) has made a great start on her Mariners compass.

This class is a great introduction to foundation piecing and many of the girls turned up the next morning to join in on the New York Beauty class...

These blocks are 9inch foundation pieced blocks and some of these were achieved by absolute beginners! We are taking names for these classes again for later in the year, so be sure to get in touch with me if you are interested in learning this fantastic skill.
